SUMMER WORKSHOP SPECIAL & HOW TO REMEMBER A CHOREOGRAPHY BETTER!

SUMMER WORKSHOP WEEK & HOW TO REMEMBER A CHOREOGRAPHY BETTER!

Try out a new dance style this summer! When you try new things, you put your brain into unique situations that force it to really think. This stimulates creativity, which eventually rubs off in other areas of your life. With this in mind, we have a great selection of workshops for you to try out during the summer workshop week of 20.08. - 25.08. From veil technique to shimmy, Muwashahat to Baladi, here's a great chance for you to try your hand at something new!

Regular classes take a break during the summer workshop week until the 27.08. when we'll begin course period 5 studying the art of Raqs Sharqi or classical oriental dance. Read our tip in our newsletter to find out how you can learn a choreography more easily. Alongside our choreography classes, why not work separately on improving your posture or technique in ballet or in one of our several oriental dance technique classes? You'll be amazed by how much you can improve just by adding one extra dance class a week.

Get an overview of courses in our KP5 timetable and find the right level for you here. Still not sure? Don't hesitate to contact us for help!

ALIA & the ZeoT team are looking forward to dancing with you in KP5!

CONTEMPORARY ORIENTAL DANCE - A contemporary expression of oriental dance and a new way of interpreting music.

From different techniques like contemporary, jazz, classical or African dance we can give a new expression to our dance, how we interpret it and how we feel it, without neglecting the essence of oriental dance.

Join Rachida in this innovative workshop designed to give you new tools and new ways to enrich your movement, your dance and your expression. During the workshop we'll work on both technique as a quality of movement to enrich our body vocabulary and learn a small combination where we can apply what we've learnt during the workshop.

esraa warda Zürich chaabi dance

We're very excited to be hosting a series of North African dance workshops over the weekend of October 27/28th 2018 with Esraa Warda, a North African performance and teaching artist originally from Algeria.

Having grown up between Brooklyn and Algeria, she was introduced to dance within informal women's spaces and weddings and was quickly acknowledged as a talented dancer within her community and family. She now professionally teaches and performs Moroccan Chaabi and other Algerian dances such as Rai, Chaoui, Kabyle, and Allaoui. Her dance style and teaching methods are non-commercial and focused on the "transmission" of body knowledge mirroring the same way she learned - through informal women's dance circles. Her dance principles focus on legacy and cultural preservation that we should leave behind dance artistry that is valuable to the transformation and evolution of culture.

MANUELA BENZ // 'DRUCKGRAFIK' EXHIBITION

manuela benz Tiefdruck Zürich Ausstellung

With her focus on the body and the visualization of movement, Manuela Benz's prints have found a perfect temporary home in her exhibition at ZeoT Zürich.

Manuela's interest lies in the perception of space via the body, the expression of the atmosphere through movement, and in the channeling of energy through reduction. Since she dances herself and works regularly with her body, her focus is on this topic.

In her works she deals with the representation of movement, both in the figure and in the quality of the lines. The printing technique she uses is particularly suitable for this purpose, as it allows an effect of depth and dynamic line to be expressed by using different forces when engraving into the printing plate.

HOW TO REMEMBER A CHOREOGRAPHY!

You might not believe it but being able to pick up a choreography fast is something you can train and get better at. Here's one tip you can try in KP5 - with regular use we promise that you'll be able to pick up the choreography faster AND without trying as hard!

TIP: DON’T WATCH THE TEACHER!

Do you tend to watch your teacher whilst learning the choreography, mirroring their moves every time they demonstrate, only to find that when you dance without them you feel lost and confused?

In order to pick up choreography fast, you have to get your body used to the movement by learning with your eyes, but practicing with your body. This means studying your teacher first to properly understand their movement, execution, and timing, but not relying on them to dance the piece.

Push yourself to reduce the amount of time you watch your teacher before you try it without watching them. You’ll start to pick up choreography fast by taking the training wheels off (not watching your teacher) earlier in the class.
